Kersbrook dominated grand final day in Torrens Valley collecting three flags in some hotly contested matches
The junior grand finals were held on a beautiful morning at Kersbrook. Cudlee Creek capped off an outstanding season with a 6 sets to o win over Mt Pleasant. Julian Moradiellos and Ashton Green wood’s set at number two was very close going Moradiellos’s way 6-4 while at three Amy Adams had a good set with Zayden Greenwood winning 6-3. The junior A match was a good close contest. The doubles shared at one set each Kersbrook Blue had to work extremely hard in the singles over their hometown rivals. At number one Aish James Wake threw everything at Dipjaan Bhandari losing 5-7 in an outstanding set of tennis. At three Brooklyn Howard proved too good for Jorgia Grovermann winning 6-1, however brother Etan got one back for Kersbrook in the last winning 6-2 over Elli Coad. Going into the final set games were level so it was a matter of whoever won the set won the day, turned out to be Daniel Brettig’s day steering the Blue’s to victory defeating JD Morgan in a marathon 6-4 set.
The senior matches involved a couple of hometown showdowns. At Kersbrook the two Kersbrook A grades battled out a great match going down to the wire. The blue team started the better winning two of the doubles. Bailey Wake and Jack Gibbs too good at number 1 over Mick Westley and Jackson Grovermann winning 6-4 and Darren Wake and Glenn Gibbs winning 6-0 in the second before Tiarna Grovermann and Caitlin Westley steadied the ship in the third. In the singles it was Kersbrook who took hold winning four of the 6 sets, with wins to Michael Westley at 1 over Bailey Wake, Aish James Wake at 4 over Kane Paues, Tiarna Grovermann returning after a few weeks 6-3 at number 5 over Renee Cronk and Caitlin Westley 6-2 over Lauren Paues in a match that lasted forever. The Blues sets coming from Jack and Glenn Gibbs at number 2 and 3. Matt Schulz and Michael Noack snuck home against the Barker brothers 7-5 and in the second Tim and Max Bubner 6-4 winners over Alistair Seager and Seb Zadow. The Seager sisters got Mt Pleasant on the scoresheet winning the third 6-4 over Rebecca Coventry and Kayla Starkey. Mt Torrens took on Kersbrook in the C grade and found themselves in trouble early losing the second and third double 0-6 before John and Josh Pym put them on the board to win the top double. The singles were similar with Kersbrook winning the first four played. Sarah Horgan played well to defeat Grace May, as did Brandon Mussolino and Dave Cottrell to get past Alice Pym and Don Jennings. The third single was a marathon between John MacDonald and Mick Emmett, both players playing some great tennis along the way, in the end it was Macdonald who got home 7-5.
