A warm and breezy day greeted the TVTA seniors on Saturday. The A/B grade saw some reasonably
close matches. Mt Pleasant and Harrogate remain undefeated and face off next week while Kersbrook
are still chasing their first win.
Birdwood hosted Springton and started well winning two of the doubles. Natalie Carpenter and Beth
Viner Smith combined well in the second to defeat Isaac Garcia and Nikki Rawlings 6-3 and Lauren
Georgiou and Mark Cortolezzis proved too strong for Lana Beeson and Heidi Roesler winning 6-1.
The top double went Springton’s way with Sam Beeson and Kane Rawlings outgunning Tobias
Carpenter and Matt Steinbeck 6-3. Beeson and Rawlings also winning their singles. From there
Birdwood took control winning the next four sets. Beth Viner Smith had a great 6-4 win over Nikki
Rawlings at four. Springton edged a little closer winning the top two reverse doubles before Natalie
Carpenter and Mark Cortolezzis made sure of the win for Birdwood winning the last 6-1.
Mt Pleasant and Gumeracha played off at Gumeracha and as per last season not much separated the
two at the end of the day Mt Pleasant got the win by winning four of the six doubles. Cam Smart and
Lachie Carpenter got the day off to a good start for Gumeracha winning the top double 6-4 against
Chad Frazer and Alistair Seager before Mt Pleasant’s Michael Noack and Mark Cranwell settled to
take the second against Dan Cook and Dylan Rowe. Alysha Seager and Tricia Owen also played well
to defeat Heather Cook and Tayla Wellman 6-3. The singles were shared at three sets apiece. Strong
wins to Smart, Carpenter and Rowe for Gumeracha while Mt Pleasant had to fight a little harder for
theirs through Michael Noack, Alysha Seager and Tricia Owen. Cam Smart made it three from three
teaming with Rowe to win 6-0 in the top reverse double, however Mt Pleasant took the final two to
take the honours 7 sets to 5, however both teams scored 51 games to show how close the day was.
Harrogate made the trip to Kersbrook and played some excellent tennis to secure the win. They
Started the day with wins to Corey Hogben and Riley O’Shea in the top double and father/son
combo Shannon and Cohen O’Shea in the second. Kersbrook’s Bella Mailorano and Lauren Porter
took the third 6-0. The singles also went well for the visitors with Hogben, Riley and Shannon O’Shea
and Abbey White all having strong wins. Damien Abbott proved too strong for Cohen O’Shea
winning 6-0 and at number six Lauren Porter’s good season continues with a close 7-5 over Kiera
Redsell. Harrogate secured the day winning two of the reverse doubles.
C grade matches were not quite so close. Woodside remain undefeated defeating Cudlee Creek 9
sets to 3 and Mt Torrens had the Pym’s, John, and Josh return for their first match of the season to
defeat Gumeracha 10 sets to 2.
In Friday night’s Junior matches Harrogate had a good win over Birdwood in the D grade while
Cudlee Creek proved too strong for Kersbrook winning 6 sets to 0, the other game saw Kersbrook
Blue get a close 3 game win over Birdwood.
