Some players found it difficult to cope with the wind as the style of tennis was completely different to what they are used to and both ends of the court complete opposites. The Kersbrook A grade team reversed the semi final result by defeating Mt Pleasant 5 sets to 1 they got off to a good start winning both doubles and sealed it with the first two singles played. Aish James Wake had a convincing 6-0 win over Max Bubner while Ryan Cowling had to fight hard at number 1 for his 6-4 win over Alysha Seager. Benjamin Inwood at number 4 Mt Pleasant’s only winner getting home 6-2 over Daniel Brettig. Undefeated Cudlee Creek won the B grade 6 sets to 0over Mt Pleasant Blue with all players playing well. Kersbrook did the same in the C1s defeating Cudlee Creek 6 sets to 0 however the score could have been closer as there were some tight sets in the singles. Ethan Grovermann getting ther 6-4 over James Schibrowski and Elli Coad at number 4 fighting hard for her 6-5 win over Amy Adams. The C2 final was the closest of the day. Mt Pleasant winning 4 sets to 2 over a gallant Birdwood. The doubles shared at 1 set each, Birdwood’s Asher Routley with a strong 6-0 win at number 1 over Alisha Klitscher Mt Pleasant then rallied to win the next 3 singles to take the title. The afternoon saw a slight decrease in wind, Kersbrook dominated the day winning two of the three finals. A grade saw top placed Kersbrook far too strong for Mt Pleasant Blue winning 9 sets to 3. Kersbrook won all three doubles, the top two 6-1 and 6-2 but the third a little closer 6-4. The same pattern followed the singles, Dillon Cotton, Cam Smart, Hayden Watson and Mitchell Newman all to good for their opponents, The top single was entertaining with Mt Pleasant’s Matt Schulz playing well against Cotton to get 3 games in a high standard match. Veteran Michael Noack also getting 3 games in the third. Emily Williams and Annaliese Noack were on court for what seemed like an eternity with Williams just getting home in a tiebreak. Rebecca Coventry finally broke the dough winning the last for Mt Pleasant 6-2. Mt Pleasant then winning two of the reverse doubles, overall Kersbrook deserving their win after a dominate season. B grade saw Springton home 8 sets to 4 over Kersbrook Blue. Sam Beeson at number 1 had a good day winning all his sets including a solid 6-1 win over Darren Wake, as did Kane Rawlings at number 2.Bailey Wake at 3 for Kersbrook Blue also winning his three sets including a good 6-1 win over Nikki Rawlings. Rick Rodigheiro also winning all of his at five for Springton. Springton managed to win each block of matches, 2 of each lot of doubles and 4 singles. The reverse doubles being the closest block with two sets of 6-4 and a 7-5. Overall a good day for Springton but both teams capping of good seasons. C grade saw fancied Woodside upset by Kersbrook who came from 4th with two very close wins over the last two weeks. Woodside’s week didn’t start well losing 4th player Oliver Littler to injury and a last minute fitness test also saw Braden Schoell not quite right to play The day started well with Woodside winning two of the opening round of doubles, Daniel Schoell and Michael Fry winning 6-3 the Damon Green and Tricia Owen winning 6-1before Caitlin Westley and Aish James Wake got one back for Kersbrook. From there it was Kersbrook’s day. Schoell and Green winning their singles for Woodside but the rest going to Kersbrook. Once again John MacDonald performing on the big stage to defeat Fry 6-1 and Tiarna Grovermann getting past Tricia Owen 6-2, both reversing results from their last meeting. Catlin Westley and Aish James Wake also winning to give Kersbrook a 5 sets to 4 advantage going into the last round of doubles of which they won two to win the day 7 sets to 5 and claim another premiership. The aftermatch presentations saw long time patron Bryce and Janet Harrison present medallions to the winning players and long time member Andrew Green recognised with three cheers as currently unwell. Another good season for TVTA finished off. |
