Senior B Gumeracha def Birdwood
Senior A Springton def Mt Pleasant.
Unfortunately, hot weather determined the senior TVTA grand finals. With Adelaide forecast to be 40 degrees matches were called off due to the heat policy. Under association rules the higher ranked teams from the semi-finals were declared victors.
This meant back-to-back flags for Springton in the A grade. Having lost just once all season no one could argue Springton’s claim to the title. Clearly the best side all season. Top players Sam Beeson and Kane Rawlings enjoyed super seasons, as did the association’s top lady player Nikki Rawlings playing at number three. Other players for Springton included Geoff Leane, Mick Rawlings, Gabbi Roesler, Isaac Garcia and Ryan Press.
Gumeracha also went back-to-back in the B grade, after a narrow win over Birdwood last year many were looking forward to the rematch, however, not to be. Cam Smart and Lachie Carpenter enjoyed good seasons and proved hard to beat at the top for Gumeracha, closely followed by Cooper Gladigau, Cooper Weinert and Dan Cook. Heather Cook, Ashton Gladigau and Tayla Wellman made up Gumeracha’s formidable female contingent.
Kersbrook claimed yet another flag in the C grade. After finishing second on the ladder and not having a win against Mt Pleasant during the minor round the Brookers snuck home in the semi final to gain top ranking come grand final day. The team consisted of Bailey Wake, Cody Griffith, Mitchell and John MacDonald, Isabella and Eloise Cutting.
Mt Pleasant in the A and C grade and Birdwood in the B grade can feel unlucky not to have had a crack at the title. They will have to wait until next season to seek redemption.
Fortunately, the Junior B grade got to play on a beautiful Friday night at Mt Pleasant in front of a big crowd. Birdwood the top team all year, Mt Pleasant hot on their heels being the only team to beat Birdwood during the season. The opening doubles were both great close sets with some nervous tennis being played. Neither side wanting to make a mistake. Birdwood came out on top in both sets. Cohen O’Shea and Ashton Greenwood winning the top set 6-4 over Josh Townley and Cassie Holt. The second was a very tense battle. Birdwood’s Bradley Loechel was all over the net from the first point and partner Lachie Welke held up the baseline extremely well to enable a 6-3 win over Dale Kratzer and Chase Watkin. In the singles Birdwood sealed the title with wins to Lachie Welke and Zayden Greenwood both 6-1. Daniel Hofmeyer and Chase Watkin played out a great set with Hofmeyer winning 6-4. Josh Townley at number one got Mt Pleasant’s only set with a good 6-3 win over Cohen O’Shea. It was a match played in great spirit and congratulations to both clubs for putting on a fine display of tennis.
